Every exchange student does his exchange year to improve his language skills but also to meet new people. You would think of meeting new people during your year abroad but is it also possible to meet people before?

Of course, it is! Almost every teenager has got an Instagram account and WhatsApp. There are some accounts on Instagram which are about exchange students and their exchange years like meme pages but also tips. Through these accounts I also found another girl who stays in Michigan this year. After I wrote to her that I’m also gonna be a MICHIGAN GIRL, she sent the invitation link to me for a group on WhatsApp only with Michigan exchange students. There are 90participants now! wow;)) The others came from completely different organizations and from different countries. Most of them are from European countries but some of them are also from Africa or Asia. From that time I was able to get in touch with more exchange students but mostly via Instagram to just exchange where they are going to live exactly and when they are going to leave. In addition I could also stay in touch with the people from my organization.

This helped me very much to see how easy it is to connect worldwide! I’m so glad that I often just went for it and sent a message to people because they are all so nice:)

My friends from the organization have already started school and told me about their experiences. I’m so excited for my first day of school on Tuesday now as it comes closer and closer! I also wanna join a sports team (maybe cross country) and then I will meet many new people there as in my classes! I´ve I’m just really happy that I have the opportunity to live my dream and explore everything here in my new home:))

But of course I wouldn’t call it contacts, when I wouldn’t talk about my friend and family in Germany. I miss them but because of WhatsApp and all the other apps, it’s easy to stay in contact. Facetiming is sometimes a bit difficult because of the time differences but we will figure it out!
